Card guessing with partial feedback

چکیده

Abstract Consider the following experiment: a deck with m copies of n different card types is randomly shuffled, and guesser attempts to guess cards sequentially as they are drawn. Each time made, some amount ‘feedback’ given. For example, one could tell true identity just guessed (the complete feedback model) or be told nothing at all no model). In this paper we explore partial model, where upon guessing card, only whether not their was correct. We show in setting that, uniformly , most $m+O(m^{3/4}\log m)$ can correctly expectation. This resolves question Diaconis Graham from 1981, even $m=2$ case open.

No-feedback Card Guessing for Dovetail Shuffles

We consider the following problem. A deck of 2n cards labeled consecutively from 1 on top to 2n on bottom is face down on the table. The deck is given k dovetail shuues and placed back on the table, face down. A guesser tries to guess at the cards one at a time, starting from top. The identity of the card guessed at is not revealed, nor is the guesser told whether a particular guess was correct...

A Simple Card Guessing Game Revisited

A deck of cards consisting of m red and n black cards is given. A guess is made as to the colour of the top card, after which it is revealed and discarded. To maximise the number of correct guesses one chooses the colour corresponding to the majority of cards remaining in the deck. We determine the expected number of correct guesses with this strategy, as well as the probability of beating an o...

Optimal Guessing Strategies in a Quantum Card Game

Three different quantum cards which are non-orthogonal quantum bits are sent to two different players, Alice and Bob, randomly. Alice receives one of the three cards, and Bob receives the remaining two cards. We find that Bob could know better than Alice does on guessing Alice’s card, no matter what Bob chooses to measure his two cards collectively or separately. We also find that Bob’s best st...

Error Prediction with Partial Feedback

Abstract. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic framework for predicting the root causes of errors in data processing pipelines made up of several components when we only have access to partial feedback; that is, we are aware when some error has occurred in one or more of the components, but we do not know which one. The proposed error model enables us to direct the user feedback to the cor...

Online Learning with Partial Feedback

In previous lectures we talked about the general framework of online convex optimization and derived an algorithm for prediction with expert advice from this general framework. To apply the online algorithm, we need to know the gradient of the loss function at the end of each round. In the prediction of expert advice setting, this boils down to knowing the cost of each individual expert. In thi...
